JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Office of the Commissioner of GST & Central Excise, Chennai Outer Commissionerate under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has released the official notification for the Recruitment of Meritorious Sportspersons for the year 2025. A total of 20 vacancies are announced under various Group-C posts including Tax Assistant, Stenographer Grade-II, Havaldar, and Multi-Tasking Staff.
This recruitment is specifically designed to encourage and recognize outstanding sportspersons who have represented the country, state, university, or school at recognized sporting events.

What you will do

- 1. Tax Assistant – Roles
  Data entry work
  Handling office files, records, documentation
  Basic computer operations
  Assisting in clerical and administrative tasks
  Supporting officers in daily office work
  2. Stenographer Grade-II – Roles
  Taking dictation at 80 wpm
  Transcription of dictated content on computer
  Preparing official letters, notes, and reports
  Typing, documentation, and maintaining records
  Assisting officers in communication and coordination
  3. Havaldar – Roles
  Physical field duties
  Assisting in departmental enforcement and operational activities
  Carrying official documents, files, and dak
  Outdoor movement-related duties (walking, cycling as per requirement)
  Providing support in various office tasks when required
  4. Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) – Roles
  General office cleaning and upkeep
  Carrying files/letters/dak between sections
  Photocopying, faxing, and assisting staff
  Opening and closing office rooms
  Providing basic clerical and support services
  Assisting in administrative and routine office tasks

Education Required:

1. Age Limit (as on 01.01.2025)

18 to 27 Years for all posts

Age Relaxation for Meritorious Sportspersons:

General/OBC: 5 years

SC/ST: 10 years

Applicable only to candidates who meet all other eligibility conditions and possess valid sports certificates.

2. Essential Educational Qualifications
Tax Assistant

Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university

Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour for data entry

Basic computer knowledge required

Stenographer Grade-II

12th Pass or equivalent

Skill Test Requirements:

Dictation: 10 minutes @ 80 wpm

Transcription: 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi) on computer

Havaldar

10th Pass / Matriculation

Mandatory Physical Standards & Physical Test:

Male Candidates:

Height: 157.5 cm (relaxable for ST, Gorkhas, Garhwalis)

Chest: 81 cm (minimum expansion 5 cm)

Walking: 1600m in 15 mins

Cycling: 8 km in 30 mins

Female Candidates:

Height: 152 cm

Weight: 48 kg (relaxation applicable)

Walking: 1 km in 20 mins

Cycling: 3 km in 25 mins

Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS)

10th Pass / Matriculation

Sports Disciplines Eligible

Sports Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have participated in any of the following:

Represented India at International competitions

Represented State at National level

Medalists in:

Junior National Championships

Khelo India Youth Games

Khelo India University Games

Khelo India Winter/Para Games

SGFI National School Games

Represented University in Inter-University tournaments

Certificates must be issued by authorized sports bodies in prescribed Forms (Form 1–5).

Only achievements from 2020 to 2025 will be considered.

Final merit based on prescribed sports norms

Shortlisted candidates will undergo:

Medical fitness test

Police verification

Selected candidates will be posted in Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Central GST Zone and will undergo 2 years probation.
