  • The Giving Wings to Fly – Airline Ready Pilot Training Programme 2026 is a fully supported aviation career initiative designed to help women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds pursue a career as commercial pilots. The programme is supported by IndiGoReach, the CSR arm of IndiGo, implemented by BharatCares (SMEC Trust), with pilot training delivered by Chimes Aviation Academy (CAA), a DGCA-approved Flying Training Organisation.

    The programme provides comprehensive training leading to a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) along with ATR Type Rating, with support for accommodation, meals, medical insurance and aviation career mentorship.

    Important: The first-batch application deadline listed on the ScholarsBox page was 29 July 2026. The programme information also indicates that a second batch is expected to open tentatively around October–November 2026.

How Long is the Pilot Training?

The complete training programme is expected to take approximately 20 months.

The programme structure includes:

6 months: Ground School in Gurugram, Haryana

12 months: Flying School at Dhana or Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh

2 months: ATR Type Rating training in India after successful completion of CPL requirements.

Selected candidates will therefore need to be prepared to stay at the designated training locations for the duration of the programme.

Giving Wings to Fly Selection Process

The selection process follows a structured multi-stage evaluation.

Phase 1 – Application and Eligibility Screening

Candidates first register on the ScholarsBox platform and complete the online application. The application is then checked against the basic eligibility requirements.

Phase 2 – Preliminary Assessments

The preliminary assessment includes:

Psychometric and cognitive assessment
Video Statement of Purpose
DGCA compliance readiness

Candidates may need to obtain their Indian passport, DGCA Computer Number and required medical certifications at different stages.

Phase 3 – Advanced Assessments

Shortlisted candidates participate in in-person assessments in Gurugram, Haryana.

ADAPT assessment
Group Discussion
Personal Interview

The ADAPT assessment evaluates skills relevant to pilot aptitude, including cognitive, psychomotor and behavioural abilities.

Phase 4 – Document Verification and Home Visit

BharatCares conducts verification of the information and documents submitted by candidates. A home visit may also be conducted to verify the candidate’s circumstances and submitted information.

Phase 5 – Final Selection and Onboarding

The final selection is based on merit and the discretion of the selection committee.

For the FY 2026–27 batch, approximately 15 candidates are expected to be shortlisted. Selected candidates will then begin their ground school training in Gurugram.

Pilot Training Exams

During ground school, candidates will need to clear the prescribed DGCA theory examinations.

The programme information states that the six DGCA theory papers include:

Air Regulations
Air Navigation
Aviation Meteorology
Technical General
Two additional specialisation papers

Candidates must achieve the prescribed passing marks in each subject. The programme also includes the RTR examination, Student Pilot Licence assessment and English Language Proficiency requirements during the subsequent stages of training.

Where Will Selected Candidates Be Trained?

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have completed Class 12 (10+2) with:

English
Physics
Mathematics

Candidates must have secured at least 51% marks in each of these three subjects.

Age Limit

The applicant must be between 18 and 35 years of age as specified by the programme’s eligibility criteria. The FAQ specifies the age requirement with reference to 1 May 2026 for the relevant batch.

Income Eligibility

Applicants must belong to an economically disadvantaged household meeting the prevailing Economically Weaker Section (EWS) criteria and Government of India guidelines.

Passport Requirement

Applicants must hold a valid Indian passport. Candidates who do not have a passport at the application stage may still apply, but must obtain one before Phase 3 of the selection process.

Medical Requirements

Candidates must fulfil the applicable DGCA Computer Number and Class 1 and Class 2 medical certification requirements during the selection process.

A police verification certificate is also required before training begins.

Candidates with visible tattoos are not considered eligible according to the programme criteria.
