  • The Income Tax Department, Pune Region has released a recruitment notification for meritorious sportspersons for various posts including Stenographer Grade-II, Tax Assistant and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS). A total of 85 vacancies are available under the sports quota recruitment for 2026.

    The notification was issued by the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Pune on August 10, 2026. Eligible sportspersons can submit their applications online from August 15, 2026, to September 15, 2026.

Education Required:

Candidates must be citizens of India and must satisfy the prescribed educational, age and sports eligibility requirements.

The recruitment is specifically intended for meritorious sportspersons, and selection will consider the order of preference prescribed under the relevant Department of Personnel & Training instructions.

Income Tax Recruitment 2026 Age Limit

The age limit is calculated as on January 1, 2026.

Stenographer Grade-II: 18 to 27 years
Tax Assistant: 18 to 27 years
Multi-Tasking Staff: 18 to 25 years

Age relaxation is available for meritorious sportspersons as per Government of India instructions. The notification states that relaxation of the upper age limit may be available up to 5 years, and up to 10 years for SC/ST candidates, subject to fulfillment of the other eligibility requirements and submission of the prescribed certificate.

Educational Qualification

The educational qualification varies according to the post.

Stenographer Grade-II

Candidates must have passed 12th class or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

Tax Assistant

Candidates must possess a Degree from a recognized University or an equivalent qualification.

Multi-Tasking Staff

Candidates must have passed Matriculation or an equivalent examination.

  • Sports Eligibility and Order of Preference

    One of the most important aspects of this recruitment is the candidate’s sports achievement.

    The notification gives preference to sportspersons according to the following order:

    Candidates who have represented India in an International Competition with the clearance of the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
    Candidates who represented a State/UT in Senior or Junior National Championships or National Games and secured a medal or position up to third place.
    Candidates who represented a University in Inter-University competitions or Khelo India University Games and secured a medal or position up to third place in the finals.
    Candidates who represented a State/UT in Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games or Khelo India Para Games and secured a medal or position up to third place.
    Candidates who represented State Schools in National Sports/Games for Schools and secured a medal or position up to third place.
    Candidates who represented the State/UT, University or State Schools at the relevant levels but did not win a medal or position.

    In case of a tie, candidates with a higher position or more than one medal may receive preference according to the notification. Participation in individual and team events may receive the same preference.

    Sports Certificates Required

    Candidates must submit valid sports achievement certificates issued by the competent authorities specified in the recruitment notification.

    The notification identifies different forms for different levels of competition:

    Form-1: International Competition
    Form-2: National Competition
    Form-3: Inter-University Tournaments
    Form-4: National Sports/Games for Schools
    Form-5: Khelo India University Games, Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games and Khelo India Para Games

    The department specifically states that certificates issued in an unauthorized format or by an authority that is not competent to issue them will be treated as invalid.

    Income Tax Department Recruitment 2026 Application Process

    Eligible candidates are required to apply through online mode during the application period.

    Candidates should carefully read the notification and instructions before submitting the application. All necessary documents must be uploaded along with the application.

    An important point is that a candidate may apply for more than one post through a single application, but must not submit multiple applications. If more than one application is submitted, all such applications may be summarily rejected. Candidates applying for more than one sport can select the relevant sports in the same application.

    Candidates must also clearly mention their preference for the posts applied for. Failure to indicate the post preference may result in rejection of the application.

    Application Fee

    The Income Tax Department Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 application fee is ₹200.

    The fee must be paid through online mode, and proof of payment must be furnished with the application. Applications submitted without the required fee will be treated as incomplete and rejected. The notification also states that the fee once paid will not be refunded.

    Selection Process

    The recruitment is based on the prescribed sports quota selection criteria and the candidate’s sports achievements.

    Selected candidates will also have to meet the applicable requirements for their respective posts.

    For Stenographer Grade-II, selected candidates are required to qualify a skill test involving a 10-minute dictation test at 80 words per minute. Transcription is specified at 50 words per minute in English and 65 words per minute in Hindi, on computers.

    For Tax Assistant, selected candidates are required to qualify a Data Entry Skill Test at 8,000 key depressions per hour.

    The department will also verify original certificates when candidates are called, and medical fitness will be assessed before formal appointment.

    Job Location

    According to the notification, candidates appointed through this recruitment will be posted within the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Pune Region.

    Selected candidates will be placed on probation for two years or such period as applicable under the Government of India instructions.

SALARY :

The Stenographer Grade-II post offers a pay scale of ₹25,500 to ₹81,100 per month under Level 4 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. The Tax Assistant post also offers a pay scale of ₹25,500 to ₹81,100 per month under Level 4. For Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), the pay scale is ₹18,000 to ₹56,900 per month under Level 1.
